Ursinus Men’s Rugby Victorious over American University
Cheers to Ursinus Men’s Rugby who were victorious over American University in a St. Patrick’s Day contest in Washington, D.C., this pastweekend. The team now continues in the Nationals playoff competition. Junior Christian Poslock and his teammates prepare to face William and Mary College in VA on the 24th.
“This is the furthest the rugby club here at Ursinus has gotten in its ten years of existence,” says Poslock. “We are all very excited to represent the College and those who paved the way for us. Our accomplishments are a testament to the hard work and dedication the guys have put in this year and we hope to continue building a winning tradition here at Ursinus.” American University played a strong and aggressive game early on, taking an 8-0 advantage.
Co-captains Poslock and Andrew Saa got Ursinus back on track, with Poslock scoring a penalty try, and Saa setting up Mike Davis for a try on a very savvy play. After holding a 12-11 advantage at half, Joe Kestembaum scored on a brilliant 45-meter run to give the Bearcox a 19-11 advantage.
After American scored a try of their own halfway through the second half, Ursinus was able to play smart defense and control the ball long enough to pull off the 19-18 upset victory.
Ursinus travels to Norfolk, Virginia to play in the SouthEast Penn Region championships to try and earn a spot in the NSCRO finals at the end of April.
