Schuylkill River Exiles RFC Wins MAC 7s, Moves on to National Club 7s Tournament

On Saturday, July 22nd, the Schuylkill River Exiles RFC hosted the Philadelphia 7s in Doylestown, PA where the MAC 7s Championship was played.

Schuylkill River RFC Wins MAC 7s Championship

After a 4 tournament series of 7s tournaments, Schuylkill River Exiles RFC came out on top at the MAC 7s Championship in the Men's Open Division. Although they were victorious, the team finished second in the series and Beltway Elite took first place.

Now both teams will travel to Minnesota on August 12th weekend to represent the MAC at the National Club 7s Tournament.

National Club 7s Tournament

Men

The Schuylkill River Exiles U23 landed themselves in a tough pool for the National Club 7s Championships. Pool C consists of #2 Seed Denver Barbarians, #5 Belmont Shore Rugby, #11 Charlotte Rugby, and #14 Schuylkill River Exiles. For the Devner Barbarians, this will be there 23rd Appearance in the tournament.

The Beltway Elites will also see some tough opponents in their pool. Pool A consists of #1 Rugby Utah Selects, #8 Bulldog Rugby, #9 Beltway Elite, and #16 Austin Huns. The Rugby Utah Selects were the 2016 National Club 7s Champions in their first ever appearance in the tournament. 

In the men's social division, Norfolk defeated the Rogue Samurai. Rogue Samuurai is a team mostly made of Marines. 

Women

One the women's side of the MAC tournament series, Scion won first place. Since Scion is the defending National Champions, the MAC was awarded three spots in this year's Nation Clubs 7s Tournament. Scion will be joined by the second place finishers, Northern Virginia, and the third place finishers, Philadelphia Women. 

Scion landed themselves the overall #1 Seed for the USA National Clubs 7s Tournament and are placed in Pool A. They were the National Club 7s Champions in 2016 and this year will be their 4th appearance.

Northern Virginia is #6 Overall Seed. This will be there 7th appearance in this tournament. Their highest finish in this tournament was 2nd place in 2013. Although they are waiting on two more teams to qualify, the only other known team in their Pool is #11 Orlando Rugby. 

The Philadelphia Women's Rugby Club landed the #8 Overall Seed and will compete in Pool B. Their pool also consists of #2 New York Rugby Club, #9 Chicago Lions, and #15 Austin Valkyries.
