Doylestown Captures 2nd Place in Div 2 National Championship Tampa Bay scores 12 points in overtime to outlast Doylestown GAME REPORT FOR SEMI-FINAL:
San Francisco Golden Gate and Doylestown battled it out in the second of the DII semifinals. Golden Gate Michael Keane scored a penalty to open the scoring, but Doylestown struck back almost immediately through a William McCoach try. The fancied Californian outfit looked ragged, and Doylestown took full advance, Brian Beauregard getting 11 points to his name to give the Pennsylvania side a 14-6 lead at halftime.
In the second half, it was all Doylestown. A resilient display prevented Golden Gate from developing any rhythm, and a dominant attacking effort saw them produce 20 unanswered points and ensured they ran out surprise, and emphatic victors, the score being 34-6 at the final whistle.
Doylestown and Tampa Bay Crewe will play in the DII Final.
GAME REPORT FOR FINAL:
In one of the most exciting matches of the weekend, the Tampa Bay Krewe side overcame Doylestown by scoring two tries in overtime to win 29-17.
Although Doylestown started strong, scoring the first try, Tampa led 7-5 at half, with their converted try.
In the second half, the teams again were neck and neck throughout. After a successful penalty kick by the Krewe, it was matched by a try by the Doylestown side. Then, in the last 10 minutes of the match, the fans were on their feet as each team scored converted tries just moments within each other. The match headed into overtime, with the scoreline at 17-all.
In extra time, however, it didn’t take the Krewe long to take advantage of their fitness and powerful pack. Tampa Bay scored their third try of the match six minutes into the first 10 minute period. In the second, Tampa Bay scored again, clinching the 29-17 victory and walking away with its first DII National Championship title.
“In the first 25 minutes of the match, we weren’t playing our style of game,” Tampa coach Dai Morgan said. “We ended up chasing them a lot and got a bit down on ourselves. But, in the second half, we came out a lot better and ran well off our pick-and-go. I am very proud of this team and I’m confident that their physicality could stand up against any team in America.”
