As you travel around Sam Boyd Stadium on the campus of the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union is represented everywhere. Pockets of old boys hang in the stands while young potential Olympians from our union look on in awe as the best of the world compete.
Philadelphia Whitemarsh old boy, Al Caravelli, led a spirited USA Rugby men's team to a win Saturday evening against the French National 7s squad. Faces in the crowd included Butch Horwath from Bethlehem and Philadelphia Whitemarsh, Lance Manga from South Jersey, referee Merri Gardner of Brandywine Rugby and Marsh Pennington, former Valley Forge U19 program coach.
