Cumberland Valley holds on to Cumberland Cup
The battle over the coveted Cumberland Cup was played this past Friday night between archrivals, Cumberland Valley (5-0) and Carlisle Thunder (5-1). Cumberland Valley hung on to the Cumberland Cup with a 13-7 victory (see High School Boys Standings).
In this battle of undefeated teams, Cumberland Valley staked out an early 8-0 lead. CV pressured in Carlisle's end most of the first half without any points to show as Carlisle's defense stood strong. CV added a second try off of a stolen hook to end the first period up 13 to nil. Carlisle stormed back in the first minutes of the second period closing the gap, 13-7. The match remained a tug of war, with both teams coming close but unable to score. Final: 13-7.
The Carlisle Thunder Boys traveled to Cumberland Valley for league game in the EPRU Boys High School Susquehanna District. The match kicked off at 7:00pm Friday April 13th in the football stadium, Chapman Field at Cumberland Valley High School.
Star players of the game were CV’s Brian Kirkpatrick and Justin Taylor, and Carlisle's #15 and Eli White.
Alex Rocca of the Eastern Pennsylvania Referee's Society officiated the match.
