North Penn RFC

Since 1988 the North Penn RFC has provided the opportunity for rugby players from the Hatfield, PA area to play on the pitch for the first time in their lives or for those looking to continue their rugby careers.

History of North Penn RFC

North Penn RFC started in 1988 as a way to provide youth with opportunity to scrum, ruck, and tackle on the rugby pitch for the first time. The first youth team in 1988 earned a sport in the USA National High School tournament that same year and ended up finishing 8th overall.

In 1991, North Penn RFC became a nonprofit corporation, which then began a large campaign of fundraising and recruiting. They took advantage of the surrounding high schools for recruitment and also became affiliated with the Hatfield  American Legion, which gave the club access to a pitch for practice and matches as well as a permanent clubhouse.

The club also has taken initiatives to create unique opportunities to host foreign players. These players have traveled from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Spain, and the United Kingdom to teach North Penn members about the sport and open their minds to new strategies and techniques on the pitch.

North Penn RFC have also hosted various of clinics on their home pitch, such as EPRU Referee Clinics and USA Rugby Coaching Clinics.

History was also made by North Penn RFC in 2001 when they established the first ever North Penn High School Girl's rugby team. The club would then make history again in 2007 when the North Penn High School Girl's rugby team went undefeated.
